Leaders of USST Conducted Research on "Staying True to Our Founding Mission" in School of Marxism

On the morning of September 23, research with the theme of staying true to our founding mission was carried out in the School of Marxism by Wu Jianyong, secretary of the Party Committee of USST, Ding Xiaodong, president of the USST, and heads of the Organization Department and the Publicity Department of the Party Committee, the Party Committee (University) Office, the Graduate Student Affairs Office, and the Archives. The meeting is attended by members of the Party Committee and the governing team of the School of Marxism, teacher representatives, and student representatives, hosted by Peng Zongxiang, Secretary of the Party branch of the School of Marxism.

 Members of the Party Committee and the governing team of the school carried out a close inspection of issues including the building of a model School of Marxism, teacher training, reforms of ideological and political education and teaching, discipline development, primary party organization management, ideological development, student society management, and international exchanges. Teacher representatives and student representatives made comments and suggestions about issues such as the university’s logistics management, facilities, and access to information resources of the library.

 Leaders of USST and heads of the departments replied to questions put by teachers and students of the School of Marxism. They would work with other departments to deal with questions unanswered on the site.

Ding Xiaodong recognized achievements of the School of Marxism in the past two years and said leaders of USST took the development of the school seriously. He then made some important points and requirements. First, on teacher training, the school should both introduce talents and train teachers, building an ideological and political teacher team with high political consciousness and remarkable teaching skills. Second, on reforms and innovation of ideological and political courses, the school should strengthen reforms on “ideological and political courses”, speed “integration of the two teams”, make good use of the role of the ideological and political courses as a main channel and a main front, extend the influence of the ideological and political courses, and make young students approve of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era heartily and thoroughly. Third, the governing team of the school should overcome difficulties and work hard. All the departments and units should cooperate with each other to implement decisions.

 Wu Jianyong emphasized that the CPC Central Committee and the municipal Party Committee paid special attention to ideological and political education and political ideology development in colleges and universities. The Party Committee of USST also valued ideological and political education, the development of the School of Marxism, and especially the building of a model School of Marxism. Main leaders of USST had conducted in-depth field research many times. Wu recognized remarkable achievements in all areas made by the School of Marxism since its establishment. He required the school to introduce Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism With Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to students’ textbooks, classrooms, and minds, to make good use of the leading position and the guiding role of ideological and political education. Wu also said the School of Marxism has a special political nature, so all the ideological and political teachers should maintain political integrity, think in terms of the big picture, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment with the central Party leadership; have full confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics; and resolutely uphold General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole, and resolutely uphold the Party Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership. Teachers should also always keep the political discipline in the classroom, act as positive role models in terms of ideological and political education, explain things to students, be honest and innovative, promote the main theme, and spread positive energy. Moreover, the governing team of the school should shoulder the historic and contemporary responsibilities and work together to take the school to a new level.
