On the afternoon of May 22, 2020, our school organized all the students and postgraduates of the school, collectively or individually, to watch a video lecture of “Learning General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Speeches on Epidemic Control” by Professor Wang Yi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism, Renmin University of China. Peng Zongxiang, Secretary of the Party branch of our school, Hu Xuming, deputy dean, directors of relevant teaching and research departments, and key teachers watched the lecture collectively.
Professor Wang talked about his understanding of speeches of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on COVID-19 prevention and control work from different aspects, based on the recent epidemic control work. The CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has taken the outbreak of the novel coronavirus with great seriousness since the very start. General Secretary Xi Jinping held many meetings to be briefed and gave a series of important instructions. Having visited Beijing to research and guide the epidemic prevention and control work and also inspected relevant units to investigate scientific research, diagnosis and treatment of the epidemic, General Secretary Xi Jinping led the whole party and the Chinese people to declare a nationwide people’s war on the epidemic by mobilizing all resources to control the spread of the virus. At present, the epidemic prevention and control work is trending in a positive direction, with initial progress achieved. The practice has proved that the CPC Central Committee made accurate judgements on the epidemic situation, deployed work promptly and adopted effective measures. The achievements of epidemic containment have once again fully demonstrated the powerful leading role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the remarkable capacity of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core to lead, deal with difficulties, and organize and motivate people. The achievements also again showed the clear advantages of the leadership of CPC and the socialist system with Chinese characteristics. At the critical moments in the development of the CPC and the country’s cause when fundamental interests of the people were concerned, General Secretary Xi Jinping played the core role of guidance, fully showing the strong leadership as a calm leader of great power in a crisis and the remarkable devotion to duty.
After watching the video lecture, teachers said they learned a lot and felt inspired to take “the system superiority in epidemic containment” to the ideological and political classes. Teachers believed the lecture of “Learning General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Speeches on Epidemic Control” was delivered at the right time in the right situation. Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, General Secretary Xi Jinping has been personally directing the outbreak response and making deployments. He held conferences, got briefed, made epidemic-related inspections, carried out head-of-state diplomacy continuously, made a series of important instructions and issued a series of key speeches. Xi shows a strong sense of political responsibility, the total devotion to the people, and effective policy development. He provides the direction and guidance for the country to ultimately beat the epidemic and restore economic growth. The epidemic is our order. Prevention and control is our responsibility. After an in-depth study, comrades from teaching and research departments agreed that the series of important speeches and instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping described the immense significance, basic strategies and key measures of epidemic prevention and control. As people undertaking ideological and political work, we shoulder special heavy responsibilities in the war against the epidemic. Therefore, we should enhance our consciousness of maintaining political integrity, thinking in big-picture terms, following the leadership core, and keeping in alignment with the central Party leadership, have confidence in the socialist path, theory, system and culture, and resolutely uphold General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the CPC Central Committee and in the whole Party and uphold the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its centralized and unified leadership. We will take the lead in firmly implementing the important speeches and instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, keep in mind that the interests of the people are above anything else, undertake our job responsibilities, make scientific research and judgment of the epidemic situation, correctly grip the epidemic changes, constantly improve the prevention and control measures, and insist on scientific methods to make the prevention and control work more targeted and effective. We will start with ourselves and show our loyalty to the CPC through deeds. During the two sessions, the teachers all agreed that we should carefully study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speeches on epidemic control as a guide to our teaching and research of ideological and political courses in the next stage.
