From 14:30 to 16:00 on March 9, our school organized students and teachers to watch ”An Epidemic Control Ideological and Political Lesson for College Students in China” arranged by the Ministry of Education, after being notified and required by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.
In this period, every student watched the video courses of “Ideological and Moral Cultivation and Legal Basis” and ”Outline of Modern Chinese History” with rapt attention before having a lively discussion. Students realized the epidemic provoked a severe crisis in the country, having unfortunate effects on people’s lives and the country’s economy and even normal functions. Meanwhile, impressed by the capacity of our government to respond and mobilize, students agreed with the country’s system profoundly and took pride in the “Chinese speed” shown in the establishment of the Fire God Mountain Hospital and the Thunder God Mountain Hospital. Inspired by words of the professors, students began to reflect on how young people could help fight against the epidemic nowadays. They believed everyone was closely connected with the society. No one could be an isolated island. The young people should establish appropriate values and directions of life, think rationally and do not believe or spread rumors. Thus they could protect themselves and contribute to society at the same time. Furthermore, students all learned lessons from the epidemic. Some thought we should protect wild animals and improve laws on wildlife protection. Some understood the relationship between humans and nature from the perspective of a community of shared future for mankind, combined with the ecological civilization promoted by General Secretary Xi Jinping. The others thought, for grassroots administrative staff with inaction or slow action and those who profiteered from a pandemic and disturbed the social order, we should handle them according to the law. From above we can see the rational thinking and legal sense of students.
As for teachers who had no classes, the school made teachers from the same teaching and research department into a group. So teachers watched the online class group by group and also had a discussion.
Teachers thought 2020 is destined to be a remarkable year as we stepped on a battlefield without smoke together. It is a people’s war that allows victory only, where we work together as one Chinese family. We have been impressed for so many times, and we have witnessed so many miracles that we are fiercely proud of the Chinese speed, power, scale, and efficiency. Our national governance system and governance capabilities have stood the test, further showing the superiority of the system. Teachers felt sorry for the nationwide epidemic yet intensely proud of the courage and strength of the people of all ethnic groups in China who fought together against the epidemic. As the epidemic is sweeping the globe now, we should remain alert and sober-minded, continuing to adopt appropriate measures against the epidemic.
Teachers also agreed that the Epidemic Control Ideological and Political Lesson was interesting yet serious and valuable. The lesson on the current affairs spreads the voice of China and shows the image of China. It is also a good ideological and political lesson that promotes the accumulated wisdom of Chinese, the collective Chinese strength and the Chinese spirit. As an ideological and political teacher, one should combine the epidemic control as a coordinated national response with the teaching. One should articulate the patriotic feelings and the responsibility of great power in the current situation, as well as the science consciousness and life values among the people in the society. One should encourage college students to realize the superiority of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the people’s war against the epidemic, to appreciate the people-centered development thinking, and to understand the tremendous value of building a community of shared future for mankind. The teacher should also help students have confidence in the socialist path, theory, system and culture, study hard and dare to put ideas into practice to become qualified socialist builders and successors. Ai Silin and the other 3 professors introduced some practical experience and impressive cases in epidemic prevention and control in China from different angles, which offered a rich source of raw material for ideological and political courses. Students would better understand the basic Marxist theory and the latest theoretical achievements in the sinicization of Marxism. Therefore, all the teachers said they would get all the ideas from the professors' lectures and share them in ideological and political classes to make better lessons.
