On November 14, 2020, School of Marxism of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) and the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of USST held 2020 University Engineering Moral Education and Integrated Moral Education in Universities, High Schools and Primary Schools Forum in the first meeting room in the Documentation and Information Center. Professors and scholars from over 20 institutes were invited to attend the forum, including Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Wuhan University of Technology, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai Party Institute of CPC, the journal Exploration and Free Views, and High School, Junior High School and Primary School Affiliated to USST.
Professor Jin Yaomei, dean of School of Marxism, hosted the opening ceremony of the forum. Professor Liu Daoping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of USST, gave the opening presentation and was also invited to inaugurate the Institute of Engineering Moral Education and Applied Ethics. Liu said USST has been exploring new ideas, ways, and modes of engineering moral education in recent years. It helps study ideological and political education in universities in depth in the new era, accelerates the modernization of education in China and also suits the strategy of building a country strong in education. It also meets both the inner demand of cultivating top engineering talent in the context of new engineering development and basic requirements of adhering to the socialist direction of school running, accelerating the modernization of education, building a country strong in education, and offering satisfactory education.
The forum consisted of two parts. In the first part, Professor Hao Yun, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Marxism at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Professor Shao Xianping at School of Marxism, Wuhan University of Technology, Professor Mao Tianhong at School of Marxism, Shanghai Polytechnic University, Associate Professor Zhao Qi, director of the Ethics Department of Institute of Philosophy, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Liu Ke at School of Marxism, USST, Professor Li Yushu from the Party School of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Professor Ouyang Guangming at School of Marxism, Shanghai University made presentations on the research value and the nature of contemporary engineering ethics, the mission, responsibility, modes and ways of engineering ethics education in universities and other subjects. In the second part, Professor Chen Peng, associate dean of School of Marxism, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Associate Professor Zhang Qifeng, associate dean of School of Marxism, Fudan University, Professor Dong Yulai, dean of School of Marxism, Shanghai Ocean University, Associate Professor Gao Shankui of the department of philosophy, Shanghai Normal University, Professor Niu Hai, associate dean of School of Marxism, USST, Wang Huiqin, Secretary of the Party Branch of Putuo Experimental School Affiliated to USST, Jin Lei, Secretary of the Party Branch of Junior High School Affiliated to USST, and Tian Ling, Secretary of the Party Branch of Primary School Affiliated to USST talked about the essence of ideological and political education in universities, high schools and primary schools, contemporary technical ethics, ethical restrictions of engineering technologies, practice and development of moral education in universities, high schools and primary schools, and other issues. They also offered advice for university engineering moral education and integrated moral education in universities, high schools and primary schools from two aspects: exploring the theory of and proving through the practice of engineering moral education.
Peng Zongxiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Marxism, hosted the closing ceremony of the forum. He said, after several years, the forum remains vibrant and useful. It sets up linkages between institutions to aid the long-term healthy development of integrated moral education in universities, high schools and primary schools in USST. It also speaks out in high-quality journals and other academic media, attracting more attention from peers and bringing more practice and performance. Moreover, the birth of the Institute of Engineering Moral Education and Applied Ethics helps combine the engineering capacity with integrated moral education in universities, high schools and primary schools.
