I. About Disciplines |
The first-level discipline of Marxist theory belongs to the law field. In 2018, the School of Marxism of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) obtained the right to offer a master's program for the first-level discipline of Marxist Theory. At present, the school offers master's programs for four second-level disciplines: Marxist Basic Principles, Marxism Sinicization, Ideological and Political Education, and Overseas Marxism. |
II. Training Objective |
The school aims to develop all-round senior professionals morally, intellectually, and physically, who can teach and conduct scientific research in fields related to the disciplines, work in the CPC and government departments and related associations, and educate and manage students. The specific skills are as follows. One would have good morals and physical fitness, work with rigor and creativity. One would have a good knowledge of political theories. One would know full well theories and methods of ideological and political education, write and communicate well, master at least one foreign language, and be able to read foreign literature related to one's discipline. One would also be able to teach, conduct scientific research and related managerial tasks. |
III. Research Areas Marxist Basic Principles (030501): The discipline aims to study classic works and basic principles of Marxism and to study and understand the whole scientific system of Marxism. After studying Marxist philosophy, political economy, and scientific socialism, one should combine the three major parts of Marxism, find their logical connections, and study and master Marxism as a whole. One should also analyze and understand social realities and historical issues from the standpoint of Marxism, with methods of Marxism. The research areas of Marxist Basic Principles are as follows. (1) Research on basic principles and the scientific system of Marxism; (2) Research on Marxism and the development of contemporary China; (3) Research on Marxism and modern scientific methodology. Marxism Sinicization (030503): The discipline specializes in the basic experience and rules of Marxism sinicization, especially important theories produced in the process. With the main thread of Marxism sinicization and a theme of sinicized Marxism, the discipline focuses on the theory and practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The research areas of Marxist Sinicization are as follows. (1) Research on the theory and practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics; (2) Research on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; (3) Research on basic national conditions in contemporary and modern China. Overseas Marxism (030504): The discipline refers to the usage, development, and research of Marxism in foreign countries, including the usage and development of theories and practices and the research into Marxism from aspects such as the texts, theories and schools of communist parties, Marxist scholars and Marxist researchers in foreign countries. Therefore, Overseas Marxism aims to study how theories, trends, and schools of overseas Marxism originate and develop and what their basic ideas are. The research areas of Overseas Marxism are as follows. (1) Research on trends and schools of overseas Marxism; (2) Research on classic works of overseas Marxism; (3) A comparative study of Western and Chinese Marxism. Ideological and Political Education (030505):Ideological and political education is the process of teaching and learning and social practicing of a certain ideology, moral standards, or law concepts, especially a core value system, consciously planned and organized by a society, a country, a class, or a social group for its members and people. From a Marxist viewpoint, ideological and political education adopts Marxist methods to study the nature and rules of human ideological education, political education, moral education, legal education, and mental health education, to make people have a proper worldview, a fine philosophy of life, and good values. The research areas of Ideological and Political Education are as follows. (1) Research on the basic principles of ideological and political education; (2) Research on the rule of law, the rule of virtue, and ideological and political education; (3) Research on methods and practices of ideological and political. |
IV. Years of Study |
1. The academic years are generally 2.5 years while the years of study are 2-5 years. 2. Postgraduates can apply for graduation in advance yet the maximum time in advance cannot exceed six months. A student applying for graduation in advance should meet the following requirements: ① The student's paper should pass compulsory blind peer review. ② The student should pass the CET 6. ③ The student should publish at least 1 paper in Category B Journals of USST. |
